Today is International Podcast Day!

It’s crazy to see the growth of podcasts over the years, with another year passing where people and companies celebrate a whole day dedicated to them. Whether you host your own podcast as a business, you’re a daily podcast listener, or even if you’ve never listened to one, it's hard to escape them as we all adapt to absorbing content in different ways. It’s reported that nearly six in ten of all US consumers above the age of 12 listen to podcasts, while nearly three out of four podcast listeners in the US say they tune in to learn new things. It’s estimated that by 2024, the U.S. could increase from 75.9 million to 100 million listeners. The upward trend of listeners is expected to follow in the UK also.  Not only is the growth of people who listen to podcasts impressive, we can also see the evolvement of podcast topics and series that are discussed. Podcasts aren’t just based within one industry or interest; you can listen to pretty much any topic you like – a service that supplies entertainment for everyone.

So, in terms of the financial sector, how do podcasts benefit businesses?

Podcasts are a way to showcase your company and services, but also your own knowledge and expertise. It’s a perfect place for people to learn, experts to share their insights and to build connections.  Podcasts allow you to present yourself either as an employee or a business in a different light. Of course, there is still a huge benefit and purpose to posting on social media with images, videos, animations, and writing up blog posts for your website. But podcasts offer a whole new experience. For people who prefer audio (a trend that continues to grow amongst people), you can meet their preferences and reach out to them, potentially bringing in a brand-new following who get the opportunity to absorb information in through a different medium.

Oskar Mujuzi, Account Executive at brandformula commented:

"In a world of snappy short form content, podcasts have managed to forge their way into the zeitgeist as the ideal medium for long in-depth discussion. Podcasts allow for people to engage in debate and exchange well thought out ideas which separates them from most other forms of content. I think the accessibility of podcasts has also been a huge factor in the growth, people are now able to hear the latest financial news whilst doing the dishes or listen to their favourite sports analyst on the commute to work, this added functionality means that people are able to engage with more whilst simultaneously doing the mundane day to day tasks we’re all used to. Whether it’s the opportunity to learn something new or simply be entertained the future looks bright for audio consumption."

You can also take part in podcasts as a guest. Therefore, you share your knowledge and understanding, gather followers and connections, while not having to worry about sorting your own logistics out of hosting, editing, and sharing a podcast. Being a part of someone else’s podcast is a simple way to get across the messages you want to share! Sometimes all you have to do is listen to podcasts and engage, to be able to get benefits out of them for yourself or for your business. The podcast you listen to could stimulate new ideas to bring to the table to help improve your company's offerings and services.  By getting yourself out there with either your own podcast or taking part in podcasts, the more value you can add to your company or your development within the financial sector. It’s important to find ways to stand out against your competitors and to become a go-to person/company for information and support.  If you would like some support in hosting or producing a podcast series, then the team here at brandformula would be more than happy to help.
